Being a good Uke

Being a good uke starts by having a good attitude towards practice. Keeping an open mind both towards what you are learning and giving back to your partner by giving realistic attacks. This means giving good energy to work with.

Your attacks should be always full of energy. Even when working from static, or working from motion. If your partner gets stuck, you should not let your energy stop but keep it going so you can help your partner learn.

Being a good Uke for Sensei

The best advice I have right now is when Sensei asks you to be uke to demonstrate for the class, it is your responsibility to not think about what he/she is teaching but to give a good attack for the technique. If you do not give a good attack it can make it very difficult to demonstrate. You as uke need to keep the energy flowing throughout the technique. Do not be concerned with seeing everything but concentrate on giving a good attack, as you get more advanced you will be able to feel what is going on and the need to see what Sensei is doing will get to be less and less.
