Weapons Etiquette

 

1. Always show respect to any weapon do not drop them intentionally or step on them when they are set down on the edge of the mat.

 

2. Never use another persons weapon without asking.

 

3. Never swing the weapon around in a wild manor; you should always have control over your weapon.

 

4. When sitting in seiza the weapon should be on your right side, laying parallel to the direction you are facing.

 

6. When moving around a weapon should be carried in your right hand, Bokken or Jo. I do not believe it matters which side a Tanto is carried on.

 

7. When carrying a Bokken as mentioned above is should be carried blade side up and tip pointing to the rear.

 

8. When carrying a weapon at your side you must also take care as to wear the weapon is pointing, you do not want to hit someone with a Bokken or Jo in the kneecaps or worse.

 

9. When passing a weapon to another person you should always hold it out in front of you bowing as you pass the weapon to the other person.

 

10. When handling weapons the proper etiquette varies so it is best to ask your Sensei
